Panthenot?

Gnome, but modularized. (but messy)

two approaches:

  1. Use gala over an xfce session, and work out the kinks.
-works, but scattered/layered settings, but reduced DE conflict (gnome vs gala)
-XFCE (maybe) actually picks-up where the gnome-settings-daemon issues leave us stranded
  2. Use pantheon over a gnome installation (and work out the kinks)
-works, a fair bit of setup/cleanup, but gnome vs gala issues are frustrating.

Unsolved issues:

  1. which locker to use?
-Pantheon expects light-locker and sends commands for it, so it’s the right candidate, but it has issues.
-xscreensaver is usable too, but requires more manual implementation, and still, with issues. -i3lock
  2. non-functional media (& other specialty) buttons?
    Pantheon is not distribution agnostic

    XBindkeys?

ulauncher

because using gala jacks-up use of the “super_L/R” as the launch hotkey (xfce)
even beyond the xfce thing, this is nice.
